Reflexology

About Reflexology Every organ and structure of the body is represented in a specific place on the feet. A Reflexologist will apply pressure to those different areas, which will stimulate the energy flow along a pathway or meridian, clearing congestion and balancing it throughout. Reflexology will improve your mood, relieve tension, aid sleep and improve your sense of wellbeing. Reflexology is a very individual therapy which works with you holistically and the theory is that reflexology works to help the body restore its balance naturally. Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy and therapists will work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health for their clients. This video gives further information about Reflexology (takes a few seconds to load). About the Reflexology Session On your first appointment, details will be taken of your medical history, diet and lifestyle in a confidential consultation. This is necessary to ensure that it’s safe and appropriate for you to receive reflexology. I can then assess any current problems, offer advice as to how improvements can be made to your lifestyle and then use reflexology techniques and pressures suitable for your specific needs. Subsequent sessions consist of a shorter consultation to assess how you are responding. Your feet will then be cleansed using a hygiene spray and hot cloths and a small amount of natural reflexology wax will be applied ensuring precision, grip and good contact with the reflex points. I currently use Songbird waxes which can either be scented with essential oil or unscented for use during pregnancy. Other options are available for vegans. I will work on each foot in turn by applying specific pressure to the reflex points using small, firm, creeping movements with my thumb and/or fingers. Most parts of the feet are covered, including the ankles, toes and the dorsal and plantar aspects. The pressure used will vary according to your age and state of health. Some tenderness may be revealed over the reflex areas but should not cause pain or impact on the relaxing nature of this therapy. I will treat all reflexes and then return to any problem areas. A full reflexology session will last for approximately 1 hour but if you’re short on time or money then I can offer a 30 minute treatment to aid relaxation and improve sleep. 15 minutes of Reiki can also be added onto the end of a reflexology treatment please visit my Reiki page and prices page for full details. Reflexology will induce a deep state of relaxation and some people will drift off to sleep. I will gently awaken you at the end of your treatment and allow you time to recover by offering you a glass of water. I will discuss any aspect of the treatment and offer you aftercare, lifestyle and dietary advice which will enable you to obtain the most benefit holistically. The Benefits Of Reflexology You don’t need to be ill to benefit from Reflexology as the relaxation and feeling of well-being achieved can benefit everybody. This especially applies in today’s environment of high pressure, high stress and increased workload. Reflexology is safe, calming and soothing and can induce a deep state of relaxation. It is suitable for babies, elderly people and those receiving end of life care. There may be times or circumstances where it is inadvisable to receive reflexology (see FAQ). Reflexologists DO NOT claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Please visit your GP or consultant before seeking Reflexology if you have an undiagnosed condition. Reflexology will complement your medical treatment in most cases. Please see my separate pages which cover Maternity Reflexology and Fertility Issues in more detail. And Finally...... Many of my clients are often embarrassed about the condition of their feet. i.e. their toe nails are not painted they haven’t had a pedicure recently their legs are hairy they have bunions, corns or calluses Please do not let any of this prevent you from having Reflexology. It really doesn’t matter to me at all. I regularly see feet of all shapes and sizes. All I ask is that your feet are washed prior to your session for hygiene purposes. Your feet will also be cleansed with anti-bacterial wipes before the session commences. If you have any concerns about when not to have reflexology, please refer to my FAQ page.
